Does anyone else know of a good self hosted ebook library server that can be used with native multi-platform reading app support and sync reading progress?

I really don't want to read books from a web app, I want to be able to read while offline whether on my iPhone, iPad or my Boox e-reader (Android)

I love the way BookFusion works, but I don't want to rely on their cloud storage (or any company's cloud storage for that matter)

People think my smart home is the ultimate automation setup. Truth is, I run four @homeassistant instances, have hundreds of devices, and half my automations don’t even work properly. 😅

I wrote about the real state of my smart home and some confessions about the chaos behind the scenes.

Two new blog posts are up!
Come take a look at how I have configured Renovate to run on my self-hosted Forgejo runners. Now you can easily track the applications that need to be updated on your Docker Compose, and probably anything else that you might be running on your home lab (as long as they are tracked in Git). 1/2

I do what I can · Running Renovate on self-hosted ForgejoIn this post I will demonstrate how I configured Renovate to run on my self-hosted Forgejo runners, so I can automatically track updates on my home lab applications. A lot of the quirks with the ru…

Question about @matrix federation...

I currently have a split domain setup with #synapse where my username is amd:amd.im but my server is located at matrix.amd.im

I am going to stand up a new homeserver that uses a subdomain, but I don't whether the new amd:matrix.amd.im user will show up with a bunch of encryption key errors or be seen as a new user.

What subdomain would you pick for your new #selfhosted #matrix homeserver if you were me?

Anybody still running Radicale as a DAV server? Or any other DAV server that’s not Nextcloud, for that matter?

Looking for a web client (and desktop client, but I've kinda given up on that) for calendar stuff, and … is InfCloud still the only thing that exists? Because that was never great, has not been updated in a literal decade, and I'm this close to maintaining a fork.

I don't really want to run Nextcloud just to have a calendar and an address book …

We techies really are nerds living in our own little bubble. Every time I talk to friends outside of IT, they just laugh at the things we take for granted. In our world, it’s completely normal to assume that everyone has their own domain, self-hosts everything, avoids anything proprietary like it’s the plague, and probably has a dozen side projects running on some self-built server in their closet.

But then there’s my friend, a mechanic, who finds this absolutely hilarious. To him, it’s like expecting every car mechanic to not only have their own repair garage at home but also to manufacture their own tools and, while they’re at it, maybe even start their own car brand. It sounds ridiculous when you put it that way - but to us, that’s just how things should be!

New blog post! Come figure out how I have configured my Forgejo runners to build my container images on my Raspberry Pi, totally self-hosted and private. I went crazy and run Docker in Docker in Docker in ... (you got the idea). There is also a bonus LXC container with Proxmox and a sprinkle of Ansible. This was a fun experiment, and I hope you enjoy it!

I do what I can · My self-hosted Forgejo runner setupIn this (very long post) I will be demonstrating how I have setup my self-hosted Forgejo runners at home using Docker Compose, Docker-in-Docker and a bonus LXC. To demonstrate with a practical exam…

Okay, here's something that is killing my Forgejo runner experiment: I need the perfect container image. The ones I have tried so far are missing one thing or another, and it's taking me a while to deal with that.

So, instead of trying to build my own image, let me ask the hive mind if anyone knows of a single *reliable* container image that has all of the following *already* installed: Python, NodeJS and Docker CE (or Podman).

And no, I'm not looking for a container image built buy a random guy for their own personal use. That guy could be me. I really want something that is supported as part of a larger project.

My sanity thanks you.

Planning to write a blog post explaining my newest endeavor to completely de-google my life. My approach was perhaps overkill, but I have functionally replaced every major google service I use.

I created a private (and free) tailnet with headscale. Then spun up an on-prem server which hosts immich for backing up photos/videos, cryptpad for replacing google docs, dokuwiki so I can document all this nonsense, and radicale as a CalDAV server to replace google calendar.

It's all stored on an 8TB (Raid 1 array) NAS so I have local redundancy, and compressed+encrypted (client-side)+backed up to s3 for further redundancy.

Took me a few days of thinking and 1 very intense day of execution to get it all setup. Very satisfied with the results!
