jump to recentThe PineNote is here! I'm planning on making a hands on video to share my experience. Let me know if you have any questions you want me to try and answer. I don't plan to do technical tests but open to collaborating on it.
First impression, feels like a quality and sturdy device. Feels good in the hand, the texture is a kinda soft grippy plastic. Pen felt good, the writing friction seems ok, I don't want to make any software qualifications until I update the device but still happy with the out-of-box experience. The wake from sleep time is essentially instant.
@PINE64 great work on the PineNote, I'm very impressed with the hardware!
Edit: Link to blog post with thoughts after day one. Since I'm on a single user instance most people may not see the thread with info that hasn't been boosted, the post has all of it.
I'm a photographer who enjoys landscape and underwater wildlife while traveling and diving. I've been shooting film lately, 35mm and 120, and developing & scanning Black & White film at home (color soon). Film has reinvigorated my love for photography and I've found a great community on the Fediverse, thank you!
Here are a few of my photos for #portfolioday. More at https://photos.shom.dev/.
Alt text also has location, camera, and medium info.
I'd like to imagine I'm not the only one who struggles with the desire to create, share, and upkeep things that I've previously shared. This feels more acute when it's a tool someone else might use.
I've been coming to grips with this "personal tech debt", not sure what else to call it and wrote a post about it [1]. I would love to hear how others deal with this, especially those working on small FOSS projects that are "scratch your own itch".

It's quite uncertain if and when I will ever process these images but it's always wonderful to see such amazing celestial events. I can only imagine how dramatic a lunar eclipse would be if you are away from light pollution. The difference in ambient light would be stunning.
Edit: low res camera transfer bright and dark levels adjusted slightly to suppress noise but the color is untouched.

I was at a random convenience store and they had a shelf of Fuji Pro 400H and Provia 100F in 120 for $5 a roll. After a lovely chat they were more than happy for me to buy the whole stock of about twenty rolls since they never sell them.
I just woke up and I'm quite upset to discover I was literally dreaming of film and there's no stash of Fuji in my fridge π
Small advocacy and accessibility victory, but I'm proud of it.
I wrote to our park district about their emails being fully images. Like ALL text is in images (no alt-text), no plain text component in the email, just images. I have done so annually for a few years and received responses saying they'll look into it. This year finally they're sending the text bits in text with supporting images. There's still too much functional text in those images but at least the "Learn More" buttons are text and they take you to a functioning webpage. So it's a win, I'll thank them and encourage them to keep improving.
I wanted to save my barely passable Python scripting from total extinction and write something quick/useful. So what had happened was...
Instead of writing a quick script I decided to learn a bit of FastHTML to create a web app to generate systemd service files for Podman, so a total yak-shave (I used podman generate
last week but wanted "cleaner" files).
FastHTML is a really neat approach to "templating" HTML and seems to scale nicely with your needs, which means it's easy to get started. The fact that Pico.css and sqlite are built-in is really nice for out-of-box experience (can be disabled and extended). I'll keep working on my toy app and maybe actually make it useful (I'm posting publicly for accountability, I hope).
This is why you just believe people when they tell you how they're treated instead of asking for receipts. Because they're dealing with this and don't owe you documentation!
Sorry @are0h, reported.
Thanks to @mray for sharing this really well done video by James Lee Animation
It's a call to action against big tech by simply using really good alternatives. Creative folks and communicators, thanks for your time, skills, and energy on getting the word out in ways only you can.
When #birding comes to you! (The smudge next to the hawk is a small plane)
I'm not sure why I don't question... "Is that a BAT flying around my living room?" instead of what I did, "There's a bat here. Let me take a video and then figure out how to safely get it out of here".
For the record, I live in the US Midwest and it's been cold, doors and windows have not been left open for months. There are no holes in the ceilings or walls, I have no idea how this cute critter got in but I'm happy to report I was able to guide it out without any contact.
